Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

carterx.com is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not yet fully conform to the accessibility standard. We're actively working to achieve full conformance and treat this as ongoing work, not a one-time project.

Conformance steps we have taken

As part of our recent accessibility review, we have:

  • Added semantic <h1> anchors to every page so assistive technology can identify the primary heading.
  • Ensured cart drawer content is hidden from screen readers when the drawer is closed (via the inert attribute).
  • Added aria-live="polite" announcements for cart updates so screen reader users hear when items are added, removed, or quantity-changed.
  • Increased touch target sizes on cart quantity steppers (40 × 40 px) and the mobile checkout button (44 px tall, matching Apple HIG minimum).
  • Added accessible labels (aria-label) to product flavor selectors.
  • Replaced blocking alert() error popups with persistent toast notifications that screen readers announce via role="alert".
  • Set transparent fallbacks on lazy-loaded images so PNG transparency renders correctly without a grey backdrop.
  • Removed auto-capitalization on heading text so screen readers pronounce words as written.

Known limitations

Despite our best efforts, the following areas of our site may not fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA at this time. We are actively addressing each:

  • Colour contrast: Some secondary text (e.g. servings labels, product subtitles) currently sits at a contrast ratio slightly below the 4.5:1 AA threshold. We are reviewing colour values to raise this.
  • Third-party content: Embedded review widgets and analytics may carry their own accessibility limitations outside our direct control.
  • Custom interactive sections: A small number of product-page interactions (e.g. the comparison table, the SystemX bundle picker) are being audited for full keyboard navigation support.

carterx.com is designed to be compatible with the following:

  • Recent versions of major desktop browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge.
  • Recent versions of major mobile browsers on iOS and Android.
  • Screen readers including VoiceOver (macOS / iOS), TalkBack (Android), NVDA (Windows), and JAWS (Windows).
